Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers declared his team still has a chance to qualify for the Europa League round of 16, despite just a 2-0 defeat host Zenit St Petersburg in the first leg of the round of 32 on Friday (15/2) early morning hrs .
Zenit created two goals in the second half, scored the Hulk and Sergey Semak. With this defeat, the Reds should be able to win at least 3-0 at Anfield next week to get through to the next round.
Rodgers believes the opportunity is still there. He hopes his team can score the first goal in the second leg later.
“[2-0 defeat] can be improved and give us an opportunity to fight,” said Rodgers told reporters.
“The next goal is worth very vital, and if we can do it, then it gives good momentum.”
“I thought we looked solid and threatening passing attack. Before the break, we were barely able to excel., But we conceded two poor goals tonight. We ended the match with a defeat, we should be able to win.”
